Ingredients and Equipment:

  • 3oz of 100% Kona American Coffee 
  • Chemex coffee maker 
  • Chemex filters
  • Ice 
  • Hot water, we roccmend a 1:15 ratio (about 200°F) 
  • Scale 
  • Grinder

Brewing Steps

  1. Prepare the Chemex: Place a Chemex filter in the brewer and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the Chemex. Discard the rinse water.

  2. Add Ice: Add ice to the Chemex. Use about half of the total water volume in ice (e.g., 300g of ice for a 600g brew). Bloom the

  3. Bloom the Coffee: Add the ground coffee to the filter and pour hot water (twice the weight of the coffee) over the grounds in a circular motion to bloom. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds.

  4. Brew the Coffee: Slowly pour the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion. Pouring should take about 3-4 minutes. 

  5. Cool the Coffee: The brewed coffee will drip over the ice, cooling it instantly and preserving its vibrant flavors.

  6. Serve and Enjoy: Once the brewing is complete, remove the filter, give the Chemex a gentle swirl to mix the coffee, and serve over additional ice if desired.
