Kauai island is where the first Hawaiian commercial coffee plantation was planted, back in 1836. That farm, and other Kauai coffee ventures, didn’t do well until several decades. Even then, coffee nearly completely disappeared from Kauai until it was resurrected in 1987. Now, Kauai produces about half of Hawai‘i’s total production!
